Check your schedule, lawn conditions and product instructions before beginning an application.
Which Lawnbright product should I apply first?
There isn’t one universal order for every Lawnbright product or every lawn. If you’re a subscription customer, the application order will be defined in your account getlawnbright.com/account.
In general application order depends on your grass type, the time of year, and what you’re trying to accomplish.
For a typical late-summer fall lawn renovation, a good sequence is:
- Aeroflow — 1-3 days before seeding
- Aerate/dethatch and overseed using North Star seed
- Total Lawn Starter Fertilizer — a few days later
- Green Machine — after two mows of the new grass
- Turf Star — about 2 weeks after Green Machine
- Cold Snap — a couple weeks prior to first frost
Important: Your specific Lawnbright plan may have a different sequence, so follow the application schedule provided with your shipment.
Should I mow before applying Lawnbright?
Mowing beforehand is fine, but it’s not required. If you do choose to mow first, don't scalp the lawn just because you're applying a product. A normal mowing is sufficient.
What time of day should I apply?
Apply when conditions are mild and the lawn is not under severe heat or drought stress. Early morning or early evening is usually preferable to the hottest part of the day. Check wind and rainfall conditions, especially for spot treatments.
Can I apply Lawnbright before rain?
Yes! Our products love the rain, and need to be watered in anyway.
With that said, avoid applying products immediately before a heavy downpour. Rain that arrives too quickly can wash a product away before it has had an opportunity to work as intended.
For products that need to be watered in, planned irrigation is often preferable to relying on an unpredictable storm.
Note: Weed-control products have their own weather and watering directions. Follow the label for the weed-control product you are applying.
Product timing
Spacing & combining products
Follow the instructions for the products you received rather than relying on one spacing rule for every application.
Can I apply two Lawnbright products on the same day?
Generally, don't assume that two products should be applied on the same day. Wait at least one week between applications.
Unless the product directions specifically allow combining or same-day application, it's better to separate applications by at least one week. You also shouldn't mix two Lawnbright bottles together in the sprayer unless the product directions specifically say that you can.
How long should I wait between applications?
For many Lawnbright applications, 2-3 weeks is a useful spacing guideline, but there isn't one waiting period that applies to every product.
Your Lawnbright application schedule should take priority because some products have specific windows.
What should I do if I skipped a previous shipment?
Don't automatically apply every product you skipped as soon as you find it.
Spray in the order they should be used. You can shorten the applications to one week apart if you need to catch up.
After application
Watering
Watering requirements vary by product, so always check the label before turning on irrigation.
What does “water it in” mean?
Watering in moves a treatment from the grass surface into the soil and root zone. Use enough water to do that without creating puddles or runoff. The amount and timing vary by product.
How much water should I use after application?
At least ¼ inch of water should be used. That’s what we consider ‘watering in’ our products.
The goal is to provide enough water to move the product into the soil without creating runoff.
Which products should not be watered in right away?
Weed-control products have specific watering instructions and should not be treated like fertilizers or soil conditioners. For Weed Wipeout, avoid applying when heavy rain is forecast within 48 hours. Follow the label for Weed Wipeout, Pulverize or any other weed-control product before resuming irrigation.
APPLICATION CONDITIONS
Weather & lawn stress
Check your lawn and the forecast before applying. When grass is severely stressed or dormant, waiting is often the best next step.
Can I use Lawnbright products during extreme heat?
Be cautious.
If your lawn is actively growing and healthy, some applications may still be appropriate. But if the grass is severely heat-stressed, wilted, dormant, or crispy, it's generally better to prioritize proper watering and recovery rather than trying to force growth with additional products.
What if my lawn is dormant?
Dormant grass is not actively taking up nutrients the way growing turf does. Unless a product is specifically intended for that timing, wait until the lawn resumes active growth or contact Lawnbright for guidance.
What if temperatures drop after I apply?
A brief temperature change does not necessarily ruin an application, but growth and nutrient uptake slow as the soil cools. Follow the relevant seasonal guide and product instructions. Do not add another application simply because results are not immediate.
EQUIPMENT & STORAGE
Sprayers, coverage & cleanup
Using the assigned sprayer helps deliver the correct application rate. Keep each sprayer identified and follow the directions on the product bottle.
Which sprayer should I use?
Use the purple sprayer for Weed Wipeout, the black sprayer for Pulverize and the green sprayer for other Lawnbright products unless the instructions on your product say otherwise. Save and identify each sprayer for future applications.
Can I substitute one Lawnbright sprayer for another?
No. Use the sprayer assigned to your product to ensure the proper rate of application. If your assigned sprayer is missing or damaged, contact Lawnbright before applying.
Can I use a pump sprayer?
Only use a pump sprayer when the product bottle provides instructions for doing so. Follow the dilution and application directions printed on the bottle. Do not use one dilution rate for every Lawnbright product. If you have questions, contact Lawnbright before applying.
What if the bottle empties too quickly or too slowly?
Turn off the water and stop applying. Confirm that the assigned sprayer is firmly attached, the dial is in the correct position and the pickup tube is seated properly. Make sure the hose is not kinked. If the flow still seems wrong, contact Lawnbright before continuing so you do not over- or under-apply the product.
How do I store a partially used bottle?
Remove the sprayer, close the original bottle tightly and store it upright in a cool, dry place away from children and pets. Rinse the sprayer as directed and keep it identified for use with the correct product. Do not store diluted product in a sprayer.
PLAN YOUR TIMING
Seeding & weed control
Some weed-control products can interfere with new grass. Check the product label and plan your weed-control applications around your seeding window.
Can I use weed control and seed at the same time?
Usually not in the same area. Do not apply a pre-emergent where you are trying to establish new grass unless the product label specifically permits it. Pre-emergents are designed to interrupt germination and can affect desirable grass seed too.
Post-emergent weed-control products also have reseeding intervals. Follow the product label and plan weed control around your seeding window.
When can I resume weed control after seeding?
Wait until the new grass is established and has been mowed the number of times required by the weed-control label. As a general Lawnbright benchmark, wait until the new grass has been mowed at least three times. The instructions on the weed-control product are the final authority.
