Lawnbright’s Cool Season Overseed + Repair Bundle gives northern lawns everything they need to recover from summer damage, fill in thin or bare areas, and build stronger roots before winter.
The bundle combines Aeroflow to loosen compacted soil, North Star Grass Seed to establish thicker turf, Total Lawn starter fertilizer to support new growth, and Cold Snap to provide a final dose of nutrients before winter dormancy.
When to Apply:
Begin the bundle in late summer or early fall, when soil temperatures are between 55–70°F. For most cool-season lawns, the ideal overseeding window is late August through mid-September.
New grass should have approximately 6–8 weeks to establish before the first hard frost.
Follow this application schedule:
- Apply Aeroflow approximately 1–2 weeks before overseeding.
- Overseed with North Star Grass Seed.
- Apply Total Lawn 1 to 2 weeks later, after grass begins germinating.
- Apply Cold Snap in late fall, after grass growth has slowed but before the ground freezes. This is typically late October or early November.
How to Apply:
Step 1: Apply Aeroflow
- Shake the Aeroflow bottle well and remove the cap.
- Insert the included spray top, straw side down, into the bottle.
- Attach the bottle to your garden hose. Turn on the hose and move the plastic dial to “On.”
- Spray evenly across your lawn using a back-and-forth motion.
- Water the product in thoroughly after application.
- Wait approximately 1–2 weeks before overseeding.
Step 2: Prepare Your Lawn for Seed
- Mow your lawn to approximately 2–2.5 inches.
- Rake away leaves, dead grass and other debris.
- Dethatch areas with more than ½ inch of thatch.
- Loosen the top layer of soil in bare areas to improve seed-to-soil contact.
Step 3: North Star Grass Seed
- Spread North Star Grass Seed evenly over thin or bare areas. You can apply it by hand or with a broadcast spreader.
- Lightly rake bare areas so the seed makes contact with the soil. Do not bury the seed deeply.
- Water thoroughly immediately after seeding.
Step 4: Water and Establish New Grass
Keep the top layer of soil consistently moist until the new grass is established.
Water lightly 1–2 times per day—or as needed based on your weather—to prevent the seedbed from drying out. Avoid heavy watering that causes puddling, runoff or seed movement.
Once the new grass has germinated, gradually reduce watering frequency while watering more deeply.
Step 5: Apply Total Lawn Fertilizer
- Shake the Total Lawn bottle well and attach the included hose-end sprayer.
- Spray Total Lawn evenly over the areas you plan to seed (and the rest of your lawn as needed).

- Wait until late fall, when your lawn’s growth has slowed but the ground is not yet frozen.
- Shake the Cold Snap bottle well and attach the hose-end sprayer.
- Spray evenly across the lawn using a back-and-forth motion.
- Water in with approximately ¼ inch of water, if desired.
Tips:
- Do not apply weed control in the areas you are overseeding. Herbicides may interfere with seed germination.
- If you recently applied an herbicide, wait at least two weeks before seeding unless the product label requires a longer interval.
- Avoid heavy foot traffic while your new grass is germinating.
- Do not let the seeded soil dry out during the first 2–3 weeks.
- Wait until the new grass is approximately 3–4 inches tall before mowing.
- Use a sharp mower blade and remove no more than one-third of the grass blade at a time.
- Apply products in the early morning or late afternoon to reduce evaporation and heat stress.

Each 32-ounce liquid product covers approximately 3,000 square feet.
The 5-pound bag of North Star Grass Seed covers approximately 2,000 square feet when overseeding. When planting seed on completely bare soil, it typically covers approximately 600–800 square feet. Coverage can vary depending on lawn condition and how heavily the seed is applied.

When should I expect the new grass to grow?
North Star Grass Seed typically begins germinating within 7–14 days when soil temperatures and moisture levels are favorable. Cooler weather, inconsistent watering or poor seed-to-soil contact may slow germination.
It can take several weeks for the new grass to begin filling in visibly. Continue watering and avoid judging the final results too early.
Can I apply Aeroflow and seed on the same day?
You can, but applying Aeroflow approximately 1–2 weeks before overseeding gives it time to improve water penetration and prepare compacted soil. If your seeding window is closing, it is better to apply Aeroflow and seed closer together than to delay overseeding too late into the fall.
Can I apply Total Lawn and North Star Grass Seed on the same day?
Total Lawn is a starter fertilizer formulated to support new grass and root development. It's best applied about a week after you lay down new seed.
Can I apply weed control while overseeding?
No. Do not apply weed control to areas where you are planting grass seed. Herbicides may prevent the seed from germinating or damage young grass.
Wait until the new grass has been mowed at least three times before applying weed control, and always follow the weed-control product label.
When should I apply Cold Snap?
Apply Cold Snap in late fall, when grass growth has slowed but before the ground freezes. Soil temperatures should generally be in the mid-to-upper 40s. For many northern lawns, this occurs in late October or early November.
